The Varina Greenhouse is named after a Civil War era love story, and Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina - the hometown of our business. Ballentine, a schoolmaster, fell in love with Varina, actually Virginia Avery, through their wartime correspondence. They married upon his return, and Ballentine named the post office after Varina, his affectionate nickname for Avery. This legacy of love lives on in the Varina Greenhouse.
